The Big Island has incredible vistas and amazing sunsets. Grabbing my easel and paints, I set out one afternoon across the lava fields near my house. After a 15 minute hike, I came to a beautiful rise of lava with enough elevation for me to view Kiholo Bay on the Kohala Coast. Painting while on this surreal terrain was incredible, I felt incredibly charged up, buzzing with energy, my mind trying to wrap itself around this dreamlike landscape. Hours passed like seconds and before I knew it the sun was setting. I didn't quite finish the painting on site, so I took it back to the studio where I completed the final piece.
