Sometimes, the best part of driving to a new destination is the winding side roads along the way which call us to explore them. We turned off the road to Hana and headed down a narrow road seeking an experience “out of the ordinary.”
The “out of the ordinary” we found actually turned out to be rather ordinary. Mailboxes. I don’t know where my fascination with mailboxes came from. I think it must be the attraction to take an ordinary subject that can be found just about anywhere and observe the changes in its setting and location. The environment shifts, but the object, the mailboxes, remains the same.
I see these mailboxes as animated, each one has it’s own character and presence. Just like the people that use them.
