Color Study for Surfing the Solar Rays of Light

Inspired by my time in the water, this intimate little study is drawn on natural Birch wood panel and measures 11" x 14".  This is a study for the larger original oil painting "Surfing the Solar Rays of Light."  There is something so raw and immediate about a study sketch.  It's where the painting is born, where the concept for a painting is worked out.  The black outlines are drawn with paint pen and the color is drawn with color pencil.  I love the way the color pencil lays on top of the Birchwood panel. The waxy color skips across the surface, showing texture and vibrancy of hue.
