Rovinj, a medieval fortified town dating back to the Roman era was once an island, and over the years as the town expanded, the locals built infrastructure to connect the island to the land.  Now the "Old Town" inside the fortified walls is made up of private houses, hotels, cafes, and art boutiques lining its narrow corridors.  Climbing the steep steps that led us through the city, I pondered how many feet and shoes had walked over these same cobblestones over the centuries, wearing them to a smooth polished gloss.

At night, in the narrow alleyways, the chairs come out, the candles are lit, and the smell of calamari and truffle oil fills the air.  This cafe, which was just outside our tiny hotel room, served that most wonderful of all European fare…Crepes.  For me, it's crepes at breakfast, crepes at lunch, crepes at dinner, whether it is sweet or savory, there's really no wrong time to enjoy a crepe.  I've had them at a street side vendor, at a fine restaurant, and now, in an alleyway in an old medieval city!  Yum!
