The Awakening of Na Pali

There an incredible amount of vast deep cut vertical valleys on the Na Pali Coast, they rise, seemingly stretching upwards to the sky and downwards to the water, eroded by time.  It is a hallucinogenic feast for our eyes, and a playground calling us to explore.

As the fifth painting in the series, the intention was to really open up with my brushstroke and abstract the landscape even further.  To do this, I needed the painting to be big, to have room for the movement of the brush and to feel immersed in the painting itself.  It's been awhile since I have worked big, and not having stretcher bars in this size, due to traveling, I cut the giant canvas and tacked it onto the wall of my makeshift studio. Painting in this way helped me to loosen up even more and to lose myself in the painting.
