Inspired by a coconut palm in my backyard
overlooking the Kohala Coast on the Big Island of Hawaii. Everyday I peer into its fronds, noticing the light and how it changes throughout the day. Over the months, I have watched the coconuts grow from little seedlings to large vessels filled with the extremely hydrating and sweet liquid that I greedily drink.
I historically use oils for my paintings, but I wanted to experiment with the quick drying layering effects of acrylic for this painting. It was immediate, spontaneous, and a blast to paint.
