The Na Pali coast on the North Shore of Kauai is some of the most stunning and intense landscape I have ever experienced. The mountains rise straight up out of the sea and in some parts look as though they are thin wavy sheets of paper covered in shades of green.
At the end of the road, where the Na Pali coast begins, is a beautiful beach known as Ke'e. There is a natural swimming pool protected by a reef where you can snorkel and swim to your heart’s content. I painted this painting from this place, where the magic of Na Pali begins to come alive.
In this painting I wanted to capture the intensity and aliveness of this amazing coastline by bringing in some abstraction and boldness of color. The water appears almost psychedelic adding to the painting's surreal, magical quality.
