I spent the day exploring by kayak the coastline of Catalina. I set out from the beautiful harbor of Avalon, paddling past the various colored boats secured on their moorings. I didn't get far before I came to the first cove on the other side of the infamous casino of Catalina. The colors of the casino spilled into the water, casting beautiful patterns of color onto the water's surface. Eucalyptus trees dotted the cliff line above, their branches full with the orange-hued seed pods so indicative of the time of year. Catalina is so close to the mainland of California, but yet seems like a world away...a paradise above and below.
