The Big Island is like no other island in the chain of islands that make up Hawaii. It is the youngest and by far, the most wild. With an active volcano and lava spilling daily into the sea, the Big Island is still growing and forming. It is amazing to me to be standing on ground that is still in the process of developing under my feet.
I wanted to convey the raw energy of the Big Island, so I chose to paint the sky a vibrant electric green. It is the first time I have painted a sky green and I love how it gives the painting an charge of color. The shack is an old Hawaiiana style bungalow built upon black lava which once poured right into the ocean.
The Big Island made quite an impression on me and I hope to return soon to explore and discover more of its natural beauty.
