I have been meaning to paint this particular scene of Ke'e beach at the end of the road, just at the foot of the Na Pali coast, on the island of Kauai, for sometime now. All of the visions in my head for this painting just couldn't quite communicate what makes this place so remarkable. Until now. It's not just the scenery in the painting, with its dense jungle, aqua-colored waters, and golden sand beach, that really draws me into the painting, but more importantly for me, it is the color palette used. The combination of cool turquoises, sunburst oranges, fuchsia flowers, vibrant greens, and strokes of electric blues in the shadows excite my eyes, and leave me feeling uplifted. Color does this to me, it wakes me up, makes me feel alive! I want the viewer to feel this way. To step out of the darkness of the jungle, and into the light of this sacred and idyllic scene. If you have been to Ke'e, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, just know that places like this really exist in the world... and let's make sure we respect and protect them for future generations to enjoy.
